Gong Meditation Now Available

A treatment offering deep relaxation by bathing your body in sound has been introduced to the newly-refurbished West Cornwall Inner Space.

A gong bath, or gong meditation is a fully-clothed, relaxing and blissful experience where your body is bathed in healing sound waves. People are asked to lie down on mats, wrap in a blanket and put their head on a pillow, close their eyes and relax to listen to a series of gong sounds for around an hour.

West Cornwall Inner Space director Johanna Graham said:

“It’s such a great meditation tool as it sends the listener into theta brain waves very quickly. These are the brain waves associated with deep meditative states and relaxation.”

Gong, or sound baths stimulate the brain with theta brainwaves which are known to aid with mind and body healing, boosting the immune system, promoting deep levels of relaxation, relieving stress and anxiety and encouraging creativity.

Johanna added:

“The more comfortable you are, the better the experience. Bringing a blanket is important as your body temperature can drop quite suddenly when you are fully relaxed, and feeling cold will spoil the experience. People love the experience and come away feeling deeply relaxed and often looking so much brighter and lighter in themselves, often reporting back that they had the best night’s sleep ever!”

The gong is described as the ultimate sound healing tool, as it has the broadest range of tones of any instrument. This vast range of sound bathes the human form and re-tunes the body on every level – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual – thus helping to bring a person back into harmony.

Other layers of sounds and sound healing instruments are also used for sound healing and can include singing bowls , koshi chimes, drums and wind gongs.

Johanna, who leads the gong bath session, said:

“I work in a very intuitive way so each sound bath can feel different and bring in the instruments and sounds that feel right at the time. Gong therapy relieves stress and has a profound, revitalising effect on the immune and nervous systems. When you bathe in the healing tones of the sacred gong, the wave of total sound is felt as a powerful vibration sweeping over and penetrating deeply into the body – cleansing, releasing, healing and harmonising on all levels.”

The next Gong bath is on the 20th of December in preparation for the 21.12.2020 portal. Classes after that take place on the first Sunday of each month.
